REMINDER: Tonight in Yellowknife the 1st of 3 Walking With Our Sisters Teach-Ins begins!
From our Yellowknife Facebook Page:
What’s a teach-in? Good question!
Teach-ins are an education tool that originated in the 1960s when students and staff at many American universities wanted to participate in the growing anti-war movement, but found protest actions difficult on university grounds. More recently, the Idle No More movement breathed new life into teach-ins as a way to educate Canadians about injustices and explore new relationships of equality, dignity and respect.
Typically, controversial and under-reported topics are chosen for a teach-in, with the goal of increasing awareness about these issues and encouraging people to act.
This great article is a good backgrounder for this Friday’s (Dec. 5th) #WalkingwithOurSistersYellowknife “Uncomfortable Truths: New Relationships” Teach-in at K’alemi Dene School in Ndilo at 7:00 pm.
