Project Description

Gawg, the porcupine, is a beautiful little animal, gentle, slow, with great defenses. Their quills were used by our women for many, many, generations to express the beauty and wonder of Mino Bimadiziwin, good life. The design represents the Seven Grandfather/Grandmother Teachings. When these teachings are strong again in our communities, our nations, we will not be losing our Sisters, Daughters to violence. Until that time, I will pray that each has the protection of Gawg, able to ward of the dangers that are represented by the twin to each of the Seven Grandfather/Grandmother Teachings.
