The sprouts and Yellow buds represent those sisters who were taken before they could fully bloom and spread their sunshine, Labradorite beads to protect those missing, lost, and for the loved ones left behind, and Grandmother Moon always watching embracing us in her gentle light and wisdom, welcoming our sisters home to the Spirit world. Lined with the colours of the 4 directions and sealed with Sweetgrass and prayers. by Jenny Sutherland

The Meskwaki flag is simple but has traditional concepts. The green color represents spring peace or life. The red color represents fall, war or death. The green is placed on top to express the hope that Spring will arrive, peace will prevail and life will always endure. The red is joined to it because the reality is that fall always follows, war is always threatening and death always comes. The blue bead on each vamp represents women. The right side has the women with four beads surrounding her that represents the four directions, the Meskwaki flag is below and fully colored, showing a complete life. The left side has the women with no beads surrounding her and an incomplete flag.... The incompleteness is for our missing and murdered women. by Misty Stump

The vamps I made our honouring my niece Patricia Diane & the other Sisters. I had a design already but change after I dream of her. She was surrounded with beautiful bright colours which made her hair glow & the star is the bright beautiful that shines in the evening skies. The green with a flower represents all the sister who are in the spirit world. I did not finish it becuz of the lives taken too soon. Also i left the bottom open so that their spirits can travel to visit their love ones.. edging is beading with 7 beads representing the 7 generations they be apart of. by Diane Smoke-Thomas

I did this in honor of my cousin who went missing for four years before her remains were found. We still don't know who did this to her. There is so much suffering for the family. by Debra Elaine Kawennanoron Stalk

The vamp with the forget-me-not flower is dedicated to Marie, who was murdered at age 19, and all of the other women who have been lost. The one with the daisy is dedicated to Bernice, a friend of my youth, and all of those who are still missing and also those who are not missing, but who survived terrible things. One was my way of expressing mourning, and the other was my way of expressing hope both that the missing will be found and that the survivors will heal. At the top of each are the seven sisters looking over us all by Victoria Sweet

2nd pair is a collaboration. Our instructor Ann Marie started this pair for any latecomers to finish so I finished them when I had done my first pair. I called them "Innocence" symbolizing the innocence we are all born to and the innocence of our missing sisters in the tragedy that befell them. by Sarah Schmidt

The Road: The road can be dark. The wearer walks with the clear light of grandfather sun rising in the east and setting red in the west. Those walking the other way start with “red sky in the morning, sailors take warning!” toward the full face and grace of grandmother moon to guide and light the darkness. The lines on the road are glass, representing the fragility of both the road and the travellers. There are places where the dotted lines allow us to meet on the road safely, and places where the signs indicate we should stay in our own lane, alone. The vamps are lined with denim for strength, and for comfort. We are all on this road together, pulled and guided by the spheres. I was inspired by the colours of the unity button to represent the hope that we can find balance, awareness, respect and love for all creation on this road, walking with our sisters. by Teri Souter

In designing my vamps I thought about the message that I wanted to relay, therefore I used symbols that I felt were universal. I have given the title HOPE to my project; hope for a better tomorrow, hope for healing and hope that the missing women will be found. The HEART represents the love we have for the ones we have lost, and the TEARS symbolize sorrow. The RAINBOW is a promise of eternal life . FLOWERS are loved by most women and given as a sign of love, friendship and respect. The RAYS OF SUNSHINE lead to the land beyond where we will meet our loved ones once again. by Mavis Smith
