The colors are Black for our people, red for our blood that was shed through imperialism, oppression, domination, and the enslavement. The green for the fertility and respect for our lands and the yellow for our sunshine and hope. The chains represent the physical and spiritual shackling of our peoples and the star symbolizes the North Star that guided enslaved peoples to your Turtle Island. The border represents the land on which we stand. by Sylmadel Coke

I've incorporated my Aniyunwiya (Cherokee) heritage into this art. 7 pointed star, the healing hand, and the flower border made me think of the Cherokee Rose, which was the tears our people cried on the Trail of Tears. These tears are for the missing and lost women of our Nations. Smoke and prayers are lifted every day for them. by Marcia Spirit Flicker Campbell

The ones on the top are for Simone Sanderson, young mom taken too soon. The ones on the bottom are for Lorna Blacksmith. She was only 18...she had dreams as any young woman would. She wanted to be a nurse and my design is of a nurse's symbol. It turned out looking like an angel which seems fitting.... by Pa Cour
